Drum and Flatbed Scanning

Digicraft's scanning services create digital files from your original images and art. All of our scanning methods have the resolution and detail to satisfy the most particular photographers and graphic professionals. All are capable of capturing clear, distinct colors and holding shadow and highlight detail. We thoroughly evaluate each image for black and white points, gradation, and color balance. Each scan includes dust spotting undamaged originals. We sharpen per your instructions or our best judgment given your stated reproduction objectives. Individual images are cut from film strips as necessary.

Drum scannerStandard Optical Scans are from 2000-6300 ppi optical, 8bit or 16 bit 3.7-4.1 density on Imacon Flextight and Scitex CCD scanners. Standard optical scans are excellent for smaller scale reproduction and publication purposes. We can scan any transparency, negative, or reflective art up to 11"x17", any thickness. Film will be mounted in a film carrier. Drum scans are required for full frame film scans.

Oil-Mounted Drum Scans are up to 8000ppi optical, 8 bit or 16 bit 4.2 density on a Howtek PMT scanner. Oil-mounted drum scans provide the most critical definition of highlight and shadow detail when such detail will be reproduced in your output. Oil mounting minimizes film grain artifacts and damage problems while offering extremely high resolutions from large format film. Oil-mounted drum scans are recommended for any size transparency.

Standard scan turn around is 1 business day. Drum scans 2 days. Volume scanning may require more time.
All scanning orders greater than $60 in value are archived to CD or written to your provided media at no charge. Orders less than $60 will be charged $7.50 for a CD or written to your media at no charge.

Discounts are available for large quantities of scans with extended turnaround times. Discounts are variable and dependent on whether or not there is a mix of film formats, resolution, flat art only, etc.

A Master Archive Scan should allow you to reproduce all of your film's original qualities at any scale you choose in the future. We only recommend oil-mounted drum scans for creating archive scans. Keep in mind the difficulty inherent in working with very large files, especially if you want to do your own Photoshop® work. Our research leads us to recommend:
